Entropy — Order and Disorder, 2020

Entropy—Order and Disorder is a multimedia installation piece comprising a photograph, towel, towel rack, and gaffer tape.

Stemming from my Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), this work investigates the dynamics between control and surrender. The tension between the two increases as interactions between the elements of the work are recognised by the viewers: the tidiness in the photograph with the wet towel dripping water across an area of the floor enclosed by gaffer tape.

As water runs and spreads beyond its designated boundary, the floor and wall are unexpectedly drawn into the work through their gradual, irreversible deterioration, expanding the installation beyond its initially controlled arrangement.

Once established, the installation continues to change without further intervention: water spreads, materials respond, and deterioration becomes increasingly unpredictable. The piece becomes less orderly and predictable over time, gradually shifting from an imposed condition of control toward one increasingly determined by the interactions between its materials and environment.
