Domestic Calculus, 2016 - 2019
The photographs of the quotidien, often overlooked, everyday objects in Domestic Calculus scrutinize what “reality” means. The staged scenes require a second longer look, for they appear to be slightly “wrong” and, thus, arouse suspicion.
By unsettling the familiar relationship between an object and its designated purpose, the work creates a distance between what is seen and what is presumed to be know. This challenges the viewer’s previous knowledge and discloses that there may be more beyond it.
